Social events and help in getting from place to place

As well as the actual conference sessions, there will also be some time in our programme for social events!

If you’re attending the pre-conference workshop on net.art on Wednesday 18 May, which starts at 1pm at FACT, then you might want to have lunch beforehand in the cafe on the ground floor of the FACT building. Some of us should be there from around 12:15ish. If you are around earlier or want to explore a little further, there are also many other places to grab a quick bite to eat nearby, particularly on Bold Street (parallel to Wood Street, where FACT is located).

After the net.art workshop on the Wednesday, there will be an informal gathering for drinks in the bar on the first floor of FACT – even if you haven’t attended the net.art workshop, but have already arrived for the conference beginning the following morning, please come along to say hello and meet other conference participants. We should be there from just after 5pm, until around 7pm. We will try to have a copy of the conference poster (which you can view here) visible so that you can identify us!

On Thursday evening, after the first day of the conference, we have our conference dinner at Lunya, a Catalan fusion restaurant, starting at 6.30pm. If you have not yet signed up for this and would like to attend, please contact Claire Taylor (cltaylor AT liverpool.ac.uk) by midday on Monday 16 May.

Finally, if you’re staying on in Liverpool after the conference ends on Friday afternoon, we will probably arrange to go on to a pub or bar not too far from the Foresight Centre for a drink, if there is interest – to be confirmed nearer the time!

For those of you who do not know your way around Liverpool and the various locations some help is at hand. Tori, a PhD student at Liverpool who has been helping with the organisation of the conference (particularly this blog!), will meet people in the lobby at The Liner hotel at midday on Wednesday to walk down to FACT for the net.art workshop (note The Liner is not far from the Holiday Inn, if you are staying there and want to join the group walking down).

Tori will be in The Liner reception again at 8:40am on Thursday morning, leaving at 8:45 to walk up to the Foresight Centre, where the conference will take place. You should be able to spot her holding a copy of the conference poster! Finally, she will also lead a group of those who want to walk from the conference venue/nearby hotels down to Lunya for the conference dinner on Thursday – meeting point and timing to be confirmed at the conference.
