On 9 July 2013, we will be running a virtual exhibition and workshop arising from Claire’s AHRC-funded Fellowship on Latin American Cultural Production Online. The exhibition-workshop will be held at FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology), the UK’s leading media arts centre, based in Liverpool.
Focussed around the theme of Digital Media and City Scapes: Dialogues Between Liverpool and Latin America, the morning session will be held in The Box, FACT’s flexible cinema and exhibition space, and comprises a telepresence exhibition, involving a live link-up between Liverpool and Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and the US. During the session, the artists David Boardman, Brian Mackern, Ricardo Miranda Zúñiga, Diego Mometti, Bárbara Palomino and Marina Zerbarini will talk about their recent projects, and will showcase their works that represent the cityspace.
Lunch will be provided by Lucha Libre, a new Mexican street food concept located across the road from FACT on Wood Street. Lucha Libre will be supplying us with their street food trays and taco trays as we continue our informal discussions.
After lunch, the afternoon session will be held in the Media Lab, FACT’s relaxed interactive space equipped with networked computers. The session will be hands-on, allowing spectators to become participants and play around on the works of art on networked computers. During the afternoon there will also be opportunities for feedback and discussion via Twitter, live blogging, flip filming and photo documenting. If you’re going to be tweeting at/about the workshop, you might like to use the hashtag #LatamDigMedia to label your tweets.
The day ends with a book launch to celebrate the publication of Claire and Thea’s latest book that has come out with Routledge, Latin American Identity in Online Cultural Production.
